Blast off!

Yesterday was fantastic fun. I took Tyler for the last of her neuropsychological tests for her upcoming IEP, had the parent interview with the doctor, then came home to take a half an hour to chill. Then I cleaned our room.

Scott challenged me to take less time getting ready than he did, which I think I did an excellent job, only 13 minutes, and that's with SHAVING MY LEGS TOO, which Scott didn't have to do (gladly). Scott took 7 minutes. I was overqualified for this challenge, that's why I lost *wink*.

We all went down to Whetstone Park where we met up with Matt and Toddmichael and launched model rockets.

I told the kids to greet Matt by yelling his full name like I did that night at Eddie Izzard.

"Did you bring ice cream?" Toddmichael asked.

Apparently ice cream was the only thing missing from this gorgeous day, with sunshine, and lots of people in the park flying kites and playing games. It was a little funny to watch the people who didn't know how to fly kites running in the same direction as the wind.

The model rockets attracted a lot of attention from the kids in the area, until the ice cream truck arrived. Like little kids, Toddmichael and I, and the twins hustled over to get some ice cream. I ended up with a humongous red white and blue popsicle, and the kids got chocolate and ice cream treats. Toddmichael pointed out the ice cream treat with the bubble gum in the bottom, which I had never known existed.

Happy with our purchases, we walked back to the launching area, and ate our ice cream. Everyone took turns launching the rockets while I took pictures.

Then, tragedy struck. The rocket launched and it was blown by the wind into a distant tree at the side of the park. No more rocket launching for us.

We'd had a good time though, so we invited Matt and Toddmichael over to cookout and headed back home. The table we had seen on the way to the park, it was clearly tiled by hand by someone, was still on the side of the road so we picked it up and carried it home. Scott was wondering where we would put it, but the backyard was the perfect place, and now we have two tables for parties! Hurrah!

Tyler threw a fit over swimming and the fact that she couldn't go because we were having guests. She said something really snotty to me and I sent her to her room where she had a full blown tantrum. I was afraid we would have to uninvite Matt and Toddmichael, when she finally calmed down, and they knocked on the door.

Having them over was great fun. Scott grilled some wonderful steak and chicken and pork, we tried a wing sauce Toddmichael had found at Big Lots (sometimes you find the best stuff there), and a salad (sadly I put tomatoes in it and Toddmichael couldn't have any), and the best loaded potato salad ever (from Giant Eagle I learned).

My brother Paul was supposed to come over sometime last night, but knowing him, I knew I couldn't count on the time, or count on him really coming over. He's 19, he's just not that predictable yet.

He joined us at the end of the cookout and we all had a fun time talking about different experiences, and childhood thoughts about the world and how big it really is now that we are grown. We also discussed how much we love our neighborhood, and the houses in the area.

Then we retired inside and the kids put on Scary Movie 4 and we all watched for a bit.

Paul stuck around for a little while longer and I showed him MST3K Space Mutiny, and then Scott and I were so tired we were falling asleep so Paul headed home and Scott and I passed out in bed we were so tired.

All in all a good day. You never would have guessed it was our 5 year anniversary. We have plans to go to New Orleans soon to REALLY celebrate for a few days.
