Iraq Veterans Against the War
Posted July 4th, 2008 by carinaAt Comfest, I saw a great number of beautiful arts and crafts for sale, and I signed a ton of petitions but one booth stood out among the rest.
Iraq Veterans Against the War.
This was news to me. I had not heard of this group, but wanted desperately to support them- the kids had bled me dry the night before on food they didn't eat.
Definitely worth checking out: http://ivaw.org/
Happy July 4th
Posted July 4th, 2008 by carinaIt's one of my favorite holidays today. I am so happy it's here. Happy birthday to the United States of America! Yay for fireworks and free speech and all the rest of our rights secured in the Bill of Rights.
July 4th is tomorrow
Posted July 3rd, 2008 by carinaAs we are getting ready to celebrate Independence Day, the Senate is getting ready to sell out our freedom by passing an unconstitutional spying bill that lets lawbreaking telecom companies off the hook.
These companies handed over huge amounts of information to the Bush administration, potentially millions of emails and phone calls and more, without getting a warrant.
Without enough public outcry, the Senate will let these phone companies off the hook and let Bush and future presidents keep spying on Americans without getting a warrant. Will you please help stop this horrendous bill?
Send an email to your senators now and help protect freedom this Independence Day.
Gas
Posted July 3rd, 2008 by carinaYesterday, the kids called me at work.
"Mom, I don't know if this is an emergency, but Tayler and I smell gas."
I did all the wrong things. I told her I'd call her back and was going to call Columbia Gas. Then once I had reached Columbia Gas they told me I couldn't call back with out significant risk of igniting the natural gas in the house.
I called my father in law and asked him to drive over and get the kids out of the house.
I drove home as fast as I could, feeling extremely anxious.
When I got home, everyone seemed very calm and they were all in the house. But so was the Columbia gas technician so I figured it was safe. There was indeed a gas leak. With all of the gas valves off, there was still a leak so they shut off our gas.
Crap. No hot water, no stove, no dryer.
I stayed home today to have the gas repair men come and fix everything. They were down in the basement 2 and a 1/2 hours making a lot of noise.
Now we wait for the Columbia gas technician to come back and check again for leaks, and put the gas on.
Planet Fitness
Posted July 2nd, 2008 by carinaThe last two weeks I've been heading over to Planet Fitness with my friend Alyssa to work out at 5:15 in the morning. Today we agreed that we needed to move it to 5:30. Thank goodness, because I was having trouble dragging myself out of bed for a 5:15 workout and was always getting there at 5:20 or so.
Membership costs $10 plus an initiation fee, and Alyssa and I have been doing the 30 minute circuit training, which is what it advertises, and it's a good start for my day. I come home exhausted so far, and have fallen asleep twice after getting home.
It's still great to have a workout partner to talk to, and someone who is expecting me to meet them at the gym. It's the first time I haven't hated going in a long time.
Oh Yeah
Posted June 30th, 2008 by carinaThe tablet PC rocks! It's slow but I can draw for real on the computer now.
Tablet PC
Posted June 30th, 2008 by carinaScott's coworker has an old tablet PC he doesn't want, and Scott brought it home for me to try out. It's slow as heck installing this graphics program I want to run to start drawing on the thing, BUT, I'm thinking of the artistic potential here. More later.
Today
Posted June 29th, 2008 by carinaThe kids were quoting Jason from Home Movies in the episode where he talks about cheese making him constipated, and that sometimes he has to help himself go while making a hand gesture towards his bottom.
"Jason is gross," Tyler said.
"I would not want to shake hands with him," Tayler said.
"Well, you wouldn't have to because he isn't real," Tyler said.
