Oh, that's ok, I wasn't really using my 4th Amendment Rights
Posted July 10th, 2008 by carinaFrom the ACLU:
Today, elected officials in Washington sold out the Constitution -- again.
The Senate passed freedom-stealing FISA legislation undermining your Fourth Amendment rights.
This is not a "compromise," as some in Congress would have us believe. The only thing they compromised is your freedom. Become an ACLU monthly donor, and stand up for your rights.

The FISA Amendments Act allows for mass, untargeted and warrantless surveillance of all communications coming into and out of the United States. And to top it off, it hands immunity to telecom companies for their role in domestic spying. This means your phone calls can be tapped and emails read with virtually no proof of threat, and there's no chance to learn how the telecoms invaded your privacy.
It's outrageous, unconstitutional and un-American. That's why the ACLU is prepared to challenge this unconstitutional law the moment President Bush signs it.
Gas
Posted July 3rd, 2008 by carinaYesterday, the kids called me at work.
"Mom, I don't know if this is an emergency, but Tayler and I smell gas."
I did all the wrong things. I told her I'd call her back and was going to call Columbia Gas. Then once I had reached Columbia Gas they told me I couldn't call back with out significant risk of igniting the natural gas in the house.
I called my father in law and asked him to drive over and get the kids out of the house.
I drove home as fast as I could, feeling extremely anxious.
When I got home, everyone seemed very calm and they were all in the house. But so was the Columbia gas technician so I figured it was safe. There was indeed a gas leak. With all of the gas valves off, there was still a leak so they shut off our gas.
Crap. No hot water, no stove, no dryer.
I stayed home today to have the gas repair men come and fix everything. They were down in the basement 2 and a 1/2 hours making a lot of noise.
Now we wait for the Columbia gas technician to come back and check again for leaks, and put the gas on.
The Weather Outside is Frightful
Posted February 11th, 2008 by carinaWell it's cold outside. And it's cold in my house! It's freezing in here.
I'm so used to our outrageously weird heating in our last house where it was warm downstairs and cold UPSTAIRS. Now it's just the opposite. I'm sitting in the nook and the floor that we have is FAKE tile so it shouldn't be cold but it is! I have three shirts on and a sweater, and am thinking about a blanket.
It's funny. Usually I'm irritated about putting away winter clothes because I have a lot of them. But then I realize that I have a lot of them because I get cold every winter and wear half of my wardrobe up in a matter of days.
I'm hoping to hang at Nikki's house today. I think adult company will do me good. And maybe keep me on task. Today I just feel like curling up in bed from the cold. But I have lots to do.
Tayler's sick, but she wants to go to school so she can go to Girl Scouts. I am pretty sure she's just getting a cold, so I'm saying ok.
What else trivial and boring can I write about?
Well, I decided to start a different book last night. I decided that the book I was writing was better a separate book than the book about my pregnancy. And now I am realizing how hard it is to write a memoir without being sued. Because I've had some crazy people in my life, and I think they might just do that.
Public
Posted January 10th, 2008 by carinaI feel compelled to post something publicly, as I haven't for a while.
This week is a rough week, but I'm feeling better than I did an hour ago. It's touch and go.
Aside from that here are my goals for today:
- Go to the gym
- 1 hour spent on paper work and old mail.
- 1/2 hour calling recruiters back.
- 1/2 hour on laundry- washing it, folding it, putting it away.
- Prepare for interview tomorrow.
- Make dinner
I'd add more but I think this is all I can reasonably expect from myself today.
