Adult Conversation
Posted July 22nd, 2008 by carinaSince I am no longer employed and looking for a new job, I have been home with the kids for going on two days. Scott's been working late, so it's just been the three of us.
After a day and a half of spending time with the twins, today in the van, I felt like freaking out. I'm not used to being home. I'm not used to being interrupted so many times in the middle of a thought process or a conversation, or a lecture. I'm not used to the random thoughts that come to them, and things they share with me of little substance. (Mom, in x movie y said 'some quote.')
I felt like I was going to go right out of my mind as I was driving home from the orthodontist's office. I just wanted silence. Or just to listen to ONE SONG on the radio without being interrupted 5 times. The kids have been SO demanding and SO high maintenance the last two days.
And really, some ADULT CONVERSATION PLEASE! (Get your mind out of the gutter.)
Scott is upset with me presently, so there's no conversation going on there. I think I need out of the house.

Gas
Posted July 3rd, 2008 by carinaYesterday, the kids called me at work.
"Mom, I don't know if this is an emergency, but Tayler and I smell gas."
I did all the wrong things. I told her I'd call her back and was going to call Columbia Gas. Then once I had reached Columbia Gas they told me I couldn't call back with out significant risk of igniting the natural gas in the house.
I called my father in law and asked him to drive over and get the kids out of the house.
I drove home as fast as I could, feeling extremely anxious.
When I got home, everyone seemed very calm and they were all in the house. But so was the Columbia gas technician so I figured it was safe. There was indeed a gas leak. With all of the gas valves off, there was still a leak so they shut off our gas.
Crap. No hot water, no stove, no dryer.
I stayed home today to have the gas repair men come and fix everything. They were down in the basement 2 and a 1/2 hours making a lot of noise.
Now we wait for the Columbia gas technician to come back and check again for leaks, and put the gas on.

Today
Posted June 29th, 2008 by carinaThe kids were quoting Jason from Home Movies in the episode where he talks about cheese making him constipated, and that sometimes he has to help himself go while making a hand gesture towards his bottom.
"Jason is gross," Tyler said.
"I would not want to shake hands with him," Tayler said.
"Well, you wouldn't have to because he isn't real," Tyler said.

Quoting
Posted June 2nd, 2008 by carinaToday Bill called and I didn't answer fast enough so I called him back while we were driving home from a Girl Scout function. I didn't even know it was him, since he has a new number now.
Tyler got on the phone with him and started talking with him and broached the subject of adoption. Bill told Tyler it would mean he would never get to see her again, which is simply not true. Bill's visitation would still stand.
Bill told Tyler, "You'll have to convince me."
Tyler handed the phone over to Tayler, clearly annoyed, and not wanting to talk anymore.
Bill asked to talk with Tyler again. Tyler motioned no.
Tayler said, "She's doesn't... she's motioning like she's taking a bath."
A quote right out of Home Movies with Brenden Small. The whole car exploded with laughter.

Overheard
Posted March 20th, 2008 by carinaTayler is sitting in the dining room with friends and they are talking about a boy at school.
"He's cute," one of the girls say. "But not like boyfriend cute. Like squirrel cute."

Birthdays
Posted February 24th, 2008 by carinaIt's been decided that if the girls want, we will host a party at our house. I am not keen on having ten kids in the house, but we can't find a suitable replacement for the bowling party.
Last night Scott and I purchased some CDs for the kids. We had already bought two MP3 players, and we wanted to get them some cds so we could show them how to rip them onto their computers and then put the music onto their players.
We got Tayler the Juno soundtrack and her all time favorite, Queen's Greatest Hits boxed set.
To be fair we had to find a boxed set for Tyler, and remembering that both kids like The Police, we found a suitable set for her. Then we picked out the new Jack Johnson cd for her as well.
I'm really excited to give the kids their gifts for their birthday. It's not as big as previous years, but the gifts are ones they really want, so I think they will be really pleased.

No Kids, No Plans
Posted February 23rd, 2008 by carinaSo the kids are away for the night and we don't have any plans. Wow. I forgot what this is like.

Doing the chores
Posted December 5th, 2007 by carinaI'm really behind on laundry. Scott picked up a ton of slack, and we're getting close to caught up just in time to leave.
Tayler was given the chore to sort the socks and match them.
Tayler matched about ten pairs of socks, and then started asking Tyler to help her. Tyler already helped fold and sort laundry so she didn't want to do another chore.
"Tyler, won't you please help your old buddy out?" Tayler said.
Tyler laughed. Then she said no.
About 5 minutes later Tayler asked again and Tyler didn't answer.
"Tyler?"
"Read my lips," Tyler said and mouthed NO.

Sing Song
Posted December 5th, 2007 by carinaTayler has been singing the words, "Oh you don't mean, oh, nothing at all, to me..." over and over and over again.
It's worse than having a song stuck in your head, because it's OUTSIDE your head.
I started to open iTunes to play some music right when she asked if I would play some music.
"Yes, I was just going to do that because you are driving me insane."
"It's making me insane too, that's why I asked you to play some music."
